A Special Kind of Love: For Those Who Love Children With Special Needs

All children are special, but some children have special needs. Where do the parents of a “special-needs child” go for comfort? What other individuals do they know who share their daily struggles, while watching their child try to “fit” into a normal world? What kind of issues do child and adolescent psychiatrists deal with?

Question by Gracelynn: What kind of issues do child and adolescent psychiatrists deal with?
I was just wondering, if this is what I want to do with my life, what kind of issues i would be dealing with everyday. I know that I would deal with children that have OCD, ADHD, have been abused, have eating disorders, PTSD, etc., but what else would I deal with? I would really appreciate an answer from someone who is a child and adolescent psychiatrist, but all input is appreciated!

My friend keeps acting really immature and it’s kind of embrassing?

I have a friend who I have known for about a year. She is nice but recently she been acting really immature. Even though she is in seventh grade she acts like a preschooler. She jumps on me when I’m in the hallway, and plays with her food (carving her name into a carrot), and shouts random stuff for no reason. I tell her to stop acting like a three year old, but she doesn’t stop. Recently she yelled at me for acting too “normal”. Any ideas on how to get her from stop being so immature?

Serious issues with my child’s mother?

Two days ago, my girlfriend(the mother of my child) calls me at work and tells me that she’s got a second job. I told her(once we both got home) that it wouldn’t be a good idea at this time because:
1: our 6 month old daughter is in the critical phases of her development.
2: working from 10pm-6 am, and then a primary job from 9am-5pm would cause unnecessary stresses on our family, and since we’re already unstable as it is, we should wait until things even out a little before either of us gets a second job.

Family Relationships – Embrace The Oddities!

The nuclear family is the ideal when it comes to the American family. I don’t know about you, but I’ve never been able to find a single family that seems to work this way. As we all know, the family dynamic is so much more complicated than that. You should savor your family. The best way to do that is to embrace the oddities!Bob Hope told an old joke that was as funny as it probably was accurate. He was asked how he learned to dance. He said it was because he had six brothers and learned it while jumping…
