Foster Care is Not Perfect

Foster Care is Not Perfect

Those of us who live within the foster care system often at times find it to be somewhat less than perfect! We may feel that a particular case is taking much too long to be resolved. Or perhaps the targeted end goal for a foster child is not one that we agree with. Sometimes we just feel as though the whole foster system is too full of holes.

Often we hear on the news stories of abused children who were killed or seriously injured by their biological parents or relatives. Often we find out that…

Understanding the Basics of Foster Care

What does the word “foster” mean? It means to help someone (or something) grow and develop. To foster also means to take care of someone’s needs.

When a child’s mom or dad can’t take care of that child, then someone else has to step in and make sure somebody is able to take the place of the child’s parents in the day-to-day care of the child.

Sometimes, a child’s mom or dad will be physically, sexually, or emotionally abusive to the child. When that happens, the state has to step in and investigate the…

Support Foster Care Adoption this Father’s Day at Wendy’s

There are currently more than 114000 foster children waiting to be adopted in the United States and 30000 children in Canada. The average foster child is nearly 9 years old, and spends about five years in the foster care system. Without the stability and love of a permanent family, these five years can feel like a lifetime. This Father’s Day Weekend (June 16 and 17), however, you can help foster children find good homes. All weekend, participating Wendy’s restaurants across the country will donate a minimum of 50 cents…

my boyfriend wants to go in foster care at my home, is this possible?

his home life sucks because his mom verbally abuses him about how thin he is, and then when he asks if he can have some food that she already cooked. she says no. there is a whole bunch of other shit she does, but too much to explain. i just need a way on how he can be put into the foster care system and move in with me. my mom is okay with it as well. NOTE: emancipation is out of the question.

How does the foster care system work? My parents don’t want me anymorea and I’m only 16…?

My Dad said that he was going to turn me over to the court system and I’d go to foster care or something. I am really scared and I’d like to know what would happen to me if he does do that. Do I have to go to family first? What if I have someone I want to go to? Does the judge pick? What if they put me with a weird rapist freak with 17 kids? Do I have any rights? I gave birth to a baby but it was stillborn if that makes any difference. I’m 16 years…

What rights do family members have if they have grandchildren or nephews or nieces who are in foster care?

Do we have any rights to get custody any sooner than a foster family to gain custody? It’s really fustrating that we were not informed before the baby became endangered that we were not contacted, and once we found out where my sister was and contacted her case worker, they don’t seem to want to move very fast to place the baby with our family. Family sticks together, and we are fully capable of taking care of her as well.
