What You Think Of Old Fashioned Baby Names?
Hi,
Just wondered what your opinion was on using ‘old fashioned’ names for babies.
It only in last few years names like Lily, Alfie, Harry, Molly have all come back in sync and quite popular.
I heard Tamzin Outwaithe who was once played Mel in EastEnders has had a baby girl and named it Florence Elsie Ellis – Ellis being last name and she already has a 2 year old daughter called Nora.
What you think of these names – like them, think they too old fashioned?
What your favourite ‘old fashioned’ baby name???
Lx

i like all the old names but louise and alexandra are my favourites.
Hello, x we have an Alice and Jack.
Alice is 17 months old so we named her just as old fashioned names started coming back in. Prob is, they will go back out of fashion again !!, you need to think carefully about old fashioned names given. We chose Alice as it is a classic name, intelligent, timeless and beautiful. When old the oldies go out of fashion, Alice will still be a gorgeous name….hope this helps xx
There are too many Lily’s at the mo, and Mollys and Harrys. If you are too pick one, make sure it isn’t too popular, Alice is on the up, but not too common, xxx
I love them!
My 18 month old son is called Arthur!
If he was a girl we had planned to call him “Rose”.
I also like Henry, Harry, George, Stanley, Gerard, Violet, Lily, Charlotte, Elsie, Florence, Edith, Ada, . . .
I love traditional names and really hate chavvy, made up fashion names. Traditional names will stand the test of time. Fashion names just date and sound common.
Plus, “old-fashioned” is relative. Connor, Keegan and Addison will be “old fashioned” in 60 years time . . .
I personnally prefur the older names to the off the wall “unique” names that people keep inventing. My daughters middle name is lily after my great grandmother, i’ve always loved the name but we called her Niamh as Lily was starting to become really popular.
Florence could be shotened to Flo which is very sweet.
there is nothing wrong with an ‘old fashioned’ name. sometimes i think they are better, after all there are some lovely names out there and if they are not popular at least the child wont have 3 others in their class with the same name like i had. when people give their kids names that are fashionable that often happens and names become common.
personally im not keen on nora and florence but elsie is pretty.
my favourite old fashioned names are alexandra and violet for a girl, and rupert and joel for a boy.
I think it just depends. Like any name, no matter how old it is, where its from, how popular etc. If it sounds nice, i will like it. If it sounds horrible i wont. lol.
xx
I love Alfie, Molly and Lily but hate Harry.
Tamzin Outwaithes daughter.. hmmm i think the name is ok. Folorence is a bit too classy. And Elsie.. well my next door neighbours dog is called this! lol. And i hate the name Nora.
My fave old fashioned baby name… hmm i think i wud have to say Alfie for a boy and sumtin like Lily or Victoria.
Hope this helps
xx

Well, mine is Gretchen and I always hated it growing up. I went to Germany about 8 yrs ago and was so excited b/c I thought I’d find something w/ my name on it to buy, but no such luck. According to my friend, she said that my name hasn’t been used in 100 yrs there. Oh well! I’m not a fan of older names, but some of the older ones w/ a new twist are ok in my book.
I love them!
Some of my favorites are Sadie, Stella, Emma, Grace, Lillian, Ella, Rose, Eva, Lena, Ada, Nora, Maggie, and Lydia.
They are old and they have lasted for a reason.
I love the name Norma Jean, My kids names are Edward Thomas, Michael Daniel, Ramon William, Myra Nicole…All named after uncles, grandparents, etc…I also like Olivia, Benjamin, Johnathan, Bryan, Eileen.
Lily is my favorite. It just sounds so like peaceful and sweet and stuff. There are a lot of Mollys now. Harriet is a cute “old fasion” boys name. Alfie seems like a name you would get made fun of for.
Some names are timeless;
Catherine
Victoria
Elizabeth
Alexandra
Rebecca
Emily
Personally, others like Nora seem very dated and old fashioned.
My favourite names are Victoria and Rebecca.
I love Nora and Elsie but not Florence. Two of my favourite names are Ruby and Audrey, which could be looked upon as “old fashioned”.
I like old fashioned names, but I don’t like Nora.
My daughter is called Lydia.
i love old fashioned names because they are built with character and will always be there while modern names like haden braiden and caden will die out soon
It depends- Alfie is out of fashion where as Molly is a classic. I think there’s a difference.
Charlotte.
Most names come and go, over the years, unless they are “unfortunate”.
Grizel, has died out as a name, as has Adolph.
Yeah i like the old fashioned names i love harry,Evie and i don’t like Nora but i love Florence as it was my nans name.
I love the name Nora. I also like Elizabeth and Lily.
Annabelle
Hope i could help,
Abigail
