When Did You Start Your Baby On Cereal?

I know, because of allergies you are technically not suppose to give them food until 6 months. My baby is 3 months old, the girl eats 8 ounces every 2 to 3 hours, and I know she needs the formula for the nutrients, but she’s going thru a can and a half of formula a day. So I was wondering if anyone else started their babies on cereal early?

If you child drink about 27 onces of milk a day you can start her on cereal in the morning and for dinner.
BUT always feed her with the milk first as the cereal is complementary to her diet.
My son started cereal at 3 or 4 months.

No you should keep her on just the forumula, cereal is empty calories and will cause her to overeat if it’s put in her bottle, plus it’s a choking hazard. And then just giving it to her in general increases her chances of other things, not just the allergies, such as diabetes, digestion problems and obesity..alot of which can’t be seen until they are much older or adults. Here is a good article explaining why you should wait to starthttp://askdrsears.com/html/3/T032000.asp

I started my son at 5.5 months. As long as they can sit up on their own, can show you when they are full, and are showing a lot of interest in your food they’re probably ready. Although at three months she may be a bit young – her stomach and digestive system might not be developed quite enough to handle it. I’d suggest talking with your baby doctor to be sure.

  4. my AMA pediatrician told me to start at 4 months. she didnt take it from a spoon very well and he told me to add it to her bottle. Avent bottles make a nipple for thick liquids that works great and you dont have to worry about tampering with the nipple yourself and causing a choking hazard. good luck!!!

  5. You can start your baby on cereal between 4 and 6 months of age. You can talk to your pedi about starting her a little early if you think it is necessary.

Yes I have two little girls, and I gave them both cereal at four months! If you feel like your baby is still hungry give your baby cereal! It won’t be a problem. I started out with regular rice cereal in the bottle, mix it well till’ its thicker then usual! Good luck!
