I know the Ontario government has been advertising it on TV, but I haven’t seen it yet. Ah election years, giving us a few carrots so we won’t forget all the things they took away the first two years in office *sigh*
From what I can find they are going to give you UP TO a whopping $250 bucks, just one time. It *may* become permanent (ie if they are reelected and they don’t feel like breaking their word)http://www.soonews.ca/viewarticle.php?id…
Families eligible for the Ontario Child Benefit will soon begin to receive cheques of up to $250 per child for the 2007 one time down payment, Minister of Children and Youth Services Mary Anne
Chambers announced today.http://www.680news.com/news/local/articl…
Families who receive the Ontario Child Benefit will soon get a cheque of up to $250 per child, which will be a one-time deposit this year, eventually becoming a monthly source of support by July of 2008.
Depending on their income, parents may qualify for the Ontario Child Benefit if they have a child under 18, are residents of Ontario, have filed their income tax return and are registered for the federal Canada Child Tax Benefit.
Parents who have yet to file their 2006 income tax may still receive the one-time down payment for 2007.
If you’re talking about the federal “baby bonus,” or Canada Child Tax Benefit, it’s a federal thing and the amount has nothing to do with the province you are in. It’s also based on your income (families with incomes over a certain amount don’t get baby bonus). The amount you get is based on your income, if I’m not mistaken. Also, you apply for it once the baby is born, and you have his or her birth record from hospital.
I am in BC…it is calculated the same…the baby bonus is based on your tax returns. I make $35000.00 a year and I get about $202.– per month…you will also need to apply for the universal child care benefit which is another $100.00 per month till your child is 6.
How do you apply for the baby bonus??? Thanks in advance
