What Do Children Need To Know To Be Prepared For Kindergarten?
09/02
I live in the state of Tennessee and I can’t find anywhere the requirements for children to enter into kindergarten. I assume they need to know their ABC’s and numbers, but does anyone know any specifics?

Add colors, and Pledge of Allegiance, and nursery rhymes, and a few songs for children. Plus, nowadays, some knowledge about computers.
Do you all have pre-kindergarten (pre-k) in you state? That would help you alot but they should know how to count, know their numbers by sight, abc’s both verbally and by sight, their senses, how to write the alphabets, their name, address, parents name and info, add, rhyming words, colors, know about fires, strangers, nursery rhymes, difference between right and left, manners, the pledge, and basic knowledge of computers.
My sister just retired from teaching kindergarten last year after 31 years and the best thing she was hoping the child would know was how to behave and have some good manners besides knowing some of their numbers and their parents read to them every night.
She could do the rest under those conditions.
I think all they really need kids to know is how to sit still and be quiet when someone else is talking and hopefully how to go to the bathroom by themselves. They can teach the ABCs and numbers if the kids will behave.
