Question by Gracelynn: What kind of issues do child and adolescent psychiatrists deal with?
I was just wondering, if this is what I want to do with my life, what kind of issues i would be dealing with everyday. I know that I would deal with children that have OCD, ADHD, have been abused, have eating disorders, PTSD, etc., but what else would I deal with? I would really appreciate an answer from someone who is a child and adolescent psychiatrist, but all input is appreciated!

Best answer:

Answer by Limo
I am not a pediatric psychologist or psychiatrist but I…

This is a quick peek inside a Child and Adolescent Development class taught by Assistant Professor of Psychology Alison Terry. The course examines complexities of development from conception through adolescence, including cognitive and social development in a variety of contexts and cultures. As you can see, our average classroom size is pretty small, about 19 students per classroom, which encourages close student and professor interaction and collaboration. This Psychology class is taking place in the Roberts Learning Center.

Tonight I was wanting to go to the movies by myself, & meet w/ friends later. So I ask my dad and he just tells me no, so I kinda keep on pushing asking him why. He basically tells me no, because I’m a girl. So I go on to tell him it shouldn’t matter if I’m a girl, I’m 16 & old enough to take care of myself for at least three and a half hours. So he tells me “Your not going unless your brother’s going”, who just happens to be 14. My mom was siding with me…

Product Description
Though recent legislation embedded with the No Child Left Behind Act and the Individuals with Disabilities Improvement Act mandates the use of evidence in school-based practice to demonstrate positive outcomes for all students, school social workers – especially those long out of school – often lack the conceptual tools to locate, evaluate, and apply evidence in order to demonstrate the effectiveness of their work. The first of its kind tailored specifically to this audience, this SSAAA Workshop title guides school professionals in infusing research throughout their daily practice. Description
The childhood obesity epidemic is one of the greatest threats to America’s health for at least the next several generations. Before the end of this decade, more than 20% of all children in the United States will be overweight and, therefore, at risk for serious future health problems. In this program Dr. Robinson addresses the different factors that cause obesity and provides a range of prevention and treatment strategies. Thomas Robinson, MD, MPH, is Associate Professor of Pediatrics and Director of the Center for Healthy Weight at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford. He has been involved in advocacy…

A pretty self-explanatory question. If a man is on drugs and gets a woman pregnant, will there be anything “wrong” or unusual with the child, including as they grow older (i.e., adolescent, teen)? Especially interested in physically. Thanks in advance.
