In the 1940′s and 1950′s Diana Baumrind, a clinical and behavioural psychologist from New York City, introduced her ideas of different parenting styles. These three main parenting styles are authoritarian (too hard), permissive (too soft), and authoritative (just right) parenting. In this article, we will explore what authoritarian parenting is, and we will also discuss the repercussions and outcomes of this parenting style in terms of child development and self esteem.
Authoritarian parenting is characterized by strong, sometimes harsh discipline. These parents value obedience and subjection to authority rather than independent thinking, and may use shame, coercion, and blame…
Okay- I don’t want dumb answers here.
My 7 1/2 yr old yellow lab is a great dog. He has many toys that he’s tough on and loves- but never touches our kids’ toys (NOT ONCE in 5 years we’ve had him has even attempted to chew on, play with them), even if they are made of similar material, squeak, similar colors, etc. How is this? Is it just good training? Is it that he recognizes what’s his by smell, sight, sound, memory? How does this work? Again, don’t give me a dumb answer- it’s a serious question.

One of the greatest concerns for a lot of newly breastfeeding mothers is what to do if the baby starts screaming with hunger halfway through the weekly shopping.
Breastfed babies generally don’t have to wait for their food. Usually they demand it and it is supplied instantly… but when you are standing in the frozen fish aisle of Sainsbury’s can you really whip out a breast and satisfy…
She’s almost 2 and has never even offered to try to climb out, so I’m inclined to not even try a toddler bed yet. Should I be thinking about the transition now or later when she does want to climb out?
I am 15 weeks and I think that what I am feeling is baby movement but im not 100% sure. This is my first baby, it feels like butterflies and kinda like something is just swimming around down there. I am also having some cramping. I was just wanting to know when you all started to feel your baby move at first with your first baby. Thanks!
